SOME BACKGROUND NOTES : tw. child injury.
I. power was not given to him, he had been raised to earn it. to respect all underneath his father’s rule. however, ivar had always been restless. held a desire for a larger army, a larger claim over land that had once been promised to him. where some children were content with wooden swords and rotten apples to chuck at each other for games, ivar was willing to do many more unsettling things to gain power. during one incident of rough horseplay involving ivar and a few lesser titled children, he struck a child too hard with a wooden sword, harming him severely. eventually the other children avoided him, and he supposed that was for the best. growing up he mostly spent it with those who trained him and those who educated him. often-times spent alone, ideas of rebellion and breaking the system the only thoughts mostly prominent in his mind.
II. his father had been small-minded, as ivar recounts, and not necessarily interested in making his name bring fear and respect around the land. he had no intention of becoming infamous, but ivar was determined to change that. make his house a great one, a desirable one - for wars and for crops. this is a very meticulous and calculating man. he prefers strict foundations with growing his house’s legacy into the world. any disrespect, disloyalty, and intolerable behaviour will be dealt with efficiently and most likely harshly. has a limp in his right leg from an old wound that had been poorly treated.
III. his loyalty is fickle at times, mostly only leaning towards himself and his brothers and sister. being the eldest has pushed a lot of pressure on his shoulders, but he enjoys this. he savours the test of survival and of thriving. marriage will only be a commitment of joined houses, joined power, and to grow an army. romance and the like is not a priority.
IV. horseback riding and hunting remains hobbies of his, and he’ll often be in the grasslands for many days by himself. his horse is named ‘iron thunder’, a large black steed he had once rescued from a swamp when it was only a foal.
V. there’s a large grassland behind his fort, this is where he keeps all the horses before bringing them out to trade. there’s been some rumours that a few dishonest traders have been met with drawn knives and swords, leaving ivar as the victor, of course.
